Knuckles the Echidna is a recurring character in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Originally an enemy, he later becomes a friend and rival of Sonic.

History[]

Knuckles first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. As the guardian of the Floating Island and Master Emerald, he was tricked by Dr. Eggman, whose Death Egg had crashed there after the events of the last game, that Sonic and Tails were his enemies. The three fought at several spots, but Knuckles was unable to prevent Eggman's defeat.

His next role was in Sonic & Knuckles, where Eggman attempted to steal the Master Emerald. Knuckles wound up fighting against the doctor to prevent its theft.

Since then, Knuckles has been a recurring character, sometimes being pulled into the adventures due to the involvement of the Chaos Emeralds or Master Emerald or just wanting to put an end to Eggman's chaos.

Knuckles is a Fighter with the dual elements of Fire and Earth. His moves focus on reducing enemy defenses.

Knuckles first appears in Chapter 0. He can be conversed with in Chapter 1 to learn a little more about the setting and the guild.

In Chapter 2, he notices Kyuu's lack of initial skill and offers to teach him some techniques to help him survive. In Version 1, this allowed Kyuu his pick between an elemental physical attack or his choice of a defensive or offensive spell. In Version 2, this is used as a tutorial for the Soul Points system.

Knuckles does not appear again in Version 1 after this, but can then be found again in Version 2 at Chapter 6 in Riveras Villages. He explains that the Master Emerald has been shattered and he needs to gather the pieces. The party will automatically accept the quest if he is talked to and gains Knuckles' Summon Card. This grants the user a physical attack that can inflict Stun status on enemies.
